Will it ever make it to production? We shall see. What I found interesting however was the glimpse of the engineering problems that have to be overcome in order to make a decent safe Li-ion battery, and the effect of solving these problems on an EV. Presumably failure of these mechanisms could result in the battery catching fire during charging. I think I'd want to do any overnight charging outside the garage, to be on the safe side.
